City of Las Vegas Mayor Goodman Delivered Annual State of The City Address

On Jan. 6, 2022, Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman delivered her annual State of the City Address. Mayor Goodman acknowledged the accomplishments and challenges in 2021, and looked ahead to what is coming in 2022.

On Jan. 6, 2022, Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman delivered her annual State of the City Address. The mayor foresees convention and tourism numbers to continue to increase in 2022 as more and more visitors return to Las Vegas. Professional sports have become a big draw for visitors and Mayor Goodman mentioned that an NBA, MLS and MLB franchise are all very real possibilities to be added to go along with the Raiders, Golden Knights and Aces.

The city has offered incentives to attract and support small businesses in the Arts District. Creating this district has really increased interest in the area and is bringing new business to the city.

Southern Land Company is scheduled to break ground on a new five-story residential project on Symphony Park this spring.

This will be followed by a new 22-story residential project from the same developer set to break ground this summer. This will add more than 550 residential units to downtown Las Vegas. This is on top of the more than 600 new units that opened at Auric and Parc Haven in 2021.

Also planned to break ground is the new dual brand AC Marriott/Element by Westin hotels in Symphony Park. This five-story luxury hotel includes 441 rooms and 20,000-square feet of meeting and ballroom space.

Popular local chef and restaurateur James Trees plans to expand his Al Solito Posto brand to Symphony Park. Celebrity Chef Todd English‘s Pepper Club plans to open a new restaurant, The English, in the new Marriot Autograph Collection hotel in the Arts District.

The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine is currently under construction. This is a keystone project for the city of Las Vegas, and it is the next step toward creating the highest level of medicine and treatment for our community.

In 2022 the city will open the new Historic Westside Farming Facility. This farm will provide a new local food source as well as job training when it opens later this year.

The city will also break ground in 2022 on a brand new 10,000-square-foot Workforce Education and Training Center on the Historic Westside School campus. This new center will focus on entry-level skills training in advanced manufacturing, construction trades, information technology and healthcare.

The city will open its second International Innovation Center at Vegas downtown in early 2022, creating more working space for new tech businesses and products as Las Vegas is becoming known as a business incubator and tech hub.

Later this month the city will officially open phase 1 of expanded Courtyard Homeless Resource center that will allow for 800 guests at a time to have a safe place to go and access a myriad of services helping those in need in our community.
